It is also not unheard of that the cost for cooking wood represents 30% to 40% of the daily domestic budget dedicated to meals, diminishing the possibilities of offering a varied diet to the family. 

In West African countries, the uncleanness of water and food consumed causes some of its biggest health problems (diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, schistosomiasis, etc). The use of solar cookers to sterilize water and cook foods kills many food born bacteria.

Solar energy is readily available and does not require wood burning. It cannot be depleted, making it a sustainable energy source. Used on a large scale, it could be a major aid in the general level of health in Burkina Faso.
